LA Calling

In 2 weeks time I will be sitting on a plane heading for the bright lights of Hollywood and cannot wait!

It will be a special holiday for my friend Kelly and I as it is likely to be the last of our girlie holidays as she is due to marry next year and will be setting up home and holidaying with her new husband in future

We booked our trip to ensure we could visit the Rose Bowl Flea Market

Our trip would not be complete without visiting Shabby Chic

And the little gem I cannot wait to step inside, Sweetpeas and Snapshots

I’m calling to all you local ladies for any other ideas on places I should not miss

We have a car and 7 days to fill not to mention a good exchange rate on our $$$$$ and would love to hear your suggestion for things to do in the area

Disneyland?....Lucky you~you live so far and you are visiting the Rose bowl before me.

I hope you have so much fun. I live 6 hours away or I would for sure make time for coffee and show you around.

San Fran. is about 8.5 hours from L.A., I think. Maybe next time you can visit there. They have a large flea market and it is a wonderful city too.

I am in Fresno/Clovis....if you get a wild hair and want to drive to see a quaint little City with fun Antique stores....give me a holler :)

Are you going to have a car so you can drive around? If you are, here are some suggestions:

There are a ton of stores in Orange County that are fabulous. Old Towne Orange is filled with antique and gift stores and some great restaurants, and lots of movies use the town for their sets. You could spend an entire day just in Old Towne alone. There is Whimsy in Tustin, Paris To The Moon (and its "sister" shop Paris Underground which is all Halloween now) in Costa Mesa (my new favorite shops, they're delicious), and Gilding the Lily in Fullerton.

The Veterans Flea in Long Beach is a little smaller than the Rose Bowl but I kind of like it better (a lot of the same dealers and better prices, plus it's usually not as hot in Long Beach as it is in Pasadena so it's a little less physically draining to run around the flea). It's on the Sunday after the Rose Bowl (every 3rd Sunday) if you're still in the area.

After you visit the Rose Bowl, be sure to head on over to Old Town Pasadena. Wander around Colorado Blvd ... there are tons of fabulous shops there. Visit Lather for the most decadently divine soaps and toiletries you will find anywhere. I'm making myself want to hop in the car and go there for a new soap stash just thinking about it. ;^) It's part of a chain, so nothing individual there, but I usually like to eat at Cheesecake Factory when I'm in Old Town Pasadena. It's pretty inside, there's a huge selection on the menu (the chicken picata is sooo yummy) and, well, there's cheesecake (so many kinds it will make your head spin). It's on Colorado in the heart of Old Town. If you want to find some crafting supplies whilst in Pasadena, visit Stats (on Raymond near Green Street). It's a huge mind-boggling store.

In West Hollywood visit Sweet Lady Jane (on Melrose just before you get to La Cienega). It's a hidden gem, a tiny treasure, a little cake shop with the most beautiful and the absolutely most delicious cakes you will ever see. Plus, lots of celebs get their cakes there, so who knows? You might run into someone famous. I will literally spend an hour (to an hour and a half if traffic is nasty) in my car to go have a piece of cake there. Another store I like on Melrose is Necromance. They have some weird stuff (real skeletons, taxidermied creatures), but it's a terribly fascinating shop.

Have a fabulous time on your trip! If you need any addresses for stores or anything, just let me know.

Oh and yeah, what Sophee-a said, Disneyland. If you've never been, you must go. The nightly fireworks are like none you've ever seen and right now, the park is all decked out in Halloween finery. If you like Nightmare Before Christmas, you will especially like the Haunted Mansion right now as it's been taken over by Jack Skellington and the rest of Halloween Town's citizens.

My gosh, it has been years since I was in Los Angeles. You will have so much fun... you've got your bases covered! What a long trip for you! I would skip Disney, there is so much more to see.

Make sure you check out Mann's Chinese Theatre and put your hands where Marylin Monroe's were... I did that and they fit absolutely perfectly... what do you think that means?
